THE Queensland government has announced scientists have begun assessing potential geothermal energy sites along the state’s coast.
The state government’s initiative to discover sources of geothermal energy is apart of their $50 million Geothermal Drilling Program, which will ensure Australia’s energy security and reducing carbon emissions.
"Sources of geothermal energy identified near transmission lines have the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through increased use of geothermal energy for powered generators," Stephen Robertson, Natural Resources, Mines and Energy Minister says.
The Queensland government says scientists have started gathering temperature and heat flow data to map potential geothermal drilling begins mid next year.
