SARACEN Mineral Holdings has commenced mining at its Carosue Dam gold project in the South Laverton region of Western Australia.

“Mining at the Porphyry open pit mine, and ore haulage, have commenced,” the company says.

According to Saracen Mineral Holdings, the first stages of the project will involve five open cut mines.

Saracen managing director Guido Staltari says the company hopes the new mines will allow opportunities for further drilling programs.

“Production from Carouse Dam will see Saracen emerge as a mid-tier gold producer with a quality processing asset in a world class gold province laden with tremendous exploration and mining opportunities,” he says.

“This is a rewarding time for all Saracen staff and contractors, who have worked very hard during the past 12 months, and can now look forward to entering into this exciting new phase of the Company’s development.”
